Day 1 x 2 - Monday, 19th December 2016

I think we were all too excited to get much sleep! The car arrived at about 7-45am to take us to the airport! It was real! We were on our way to Canada for an experience of a lifetime! My dream of a white Christmas was coming true!
Our transit through customs was smooth, and the waiting game began.
The first leg of the flight from Adelaide to Auckland was delayed, but we were eventually on board and on our way! It was a smooth flight to Aukland with some small pockets of turbulence and we arrived just a few minutes later than expected.
On board, we were served with lunch.
At Auckland, we had enough time for a bathroom stop once we had gone through baggage check again. Then we walked from one end of the airport to the other to get to the gate for our next flight.
The flight from Auckland to Vancouver was also delayed - by about 40 minutes! We eventually boarded and got settled for the long flight to Vancouver! It was almost 9.00pm Auckland time by the time the flight took off! Once in the air and cruising we were served dinner - a choice of chicken curry or lamb. Both were quite good.
Then it was time to settle down and try to get some sleep! None of us slept very well - just dozing here and there! In fact the seats were quite uncomfortable which didn't help.  We were served breakfast - either scrambled eggs or continental, then it was time to prepare to land. We arrived in Vancouver at about 12.15pm on Monday 19th December - around the same time we left Adelaide.
Our transition through customs was smooth - although the line was very long as two flights landed within minutes of each other! Once we had our cases, we headed out to meet a representative from APT for our ride to the hotel. It had snowed in downtown Vancouver on Sunday (very unusual evidently) so we saw lots of snow lying around, on cars, on the roofs of buildings, on trees - in fact everywhere!
Once at the hotel, we dropped our bags and headed out to get some very late lunch, and go shopping for warm jackets and boots. We were successful in finding jackets, but the boots will have to wait till tomorrow when we aren't so tired.
It was dark by 4.30pm which only made us feel more tired. There was lots of old icy snow on the edges of the roads at the crossings, so we had to walk very carefully so we didn't slip!
After our shopping expedition, we headed back to the hotel for a little while before heading out to get some dinner. None of us were very hungry, but we figured we needed to eat something. We finished with a delicious hot chocolate from Starbucks before heading back to the hotel and a nice warm bed.It was an early night all round!

The view from our window on the first night. (Sorry about the quality - I was too tired to think straight)

Let the adventures begin!
