Tuesday, 20th December 2016 - Vancouver

It was so good to be able sleep in a comfortable bed last night! We all slept pretty well, although Ali did wake in the middle of the night with a headache but it was gone by morning. We enjoyed the sleep-in too!
There was still a little bit of snow on the ground near the hotel this morning, but not much!
The view from our window this morning.

Today, our first mission was to find some warm boots for the girls! But we had breakfast first, at a Tim Horton's Coffee Shop. There are almost of many as these shops around as Starbucks! We enjoyed bagels and croissants.

We headed to the Pacific Centre - a huge shopping centre not far from the hotel. It was easy to find some boots for Ashleigh - in the first shop we went into. Ali's were harder to find because of her "longer - than - normal - for - women" feet. We did eventually find a pair of UGG brand boots that she reluctantly settled for - this was after about 6 or 7 shops who all told us they don't make women's shoes that big! Warm socks were next on the list then it was time for a cool drink! We have found that all indoor spaces are so overheated that you have to strip back to the basics or you will melt.

After the shopping was finished we headed back to the hotel to drop off our purchases, then off in the other direction to the Christmas Markets. These markets are based on traditional German Christmas markets. Here we got some lunch. The girls started of with fresh pretzels, then - Keith, Ali & Ashleigh had "Hurricane Fries" and I had a "Chimney Cake" - we had tried these in Prague 3 years ago and they are so delicious!

The pretzels were rather large, but the girls enjoyed them!

The hurricane fries came in different flavours - Barbecue, Sour Cream and Chives & something else.

The "Chimney Cakes" cooking. The dough is wrapped around a cylinder, then put on a long stick over the heat. It doesn't take long to cook them.

I went for the traditional plain one with cinnamon and sugar.

After lunch, we finished wandering around the market - enjoying the atmosphere and the views.

The sun was shining on the snow covered mountain behind the market.
One of the stalls had all sorts of tools and things made out of chocolate! I thought the cameras were pretty good!

After we had finished looking around the market, Ali, Ashleigh & I went on a ride on the carousel - we were given free tickets by the hotel. Then we made our way back to the hotel - enjoying the sights along the way.
The girls went on the horses .....
and I enjoyed the royal seat.....
The view of the snow capped mountain with the sun on it was pretty good.

The Fairmont Waterfront Hotel looks pretty good, too!

Tonight, we had dinner with the rest of our tour group! There are 40 of us with Ali and Ashleigh being the youngest, plus 18 year old & 21year old sisters travelling with their mum who we sat with at dinner. The group is a bit of a mixed bag by the looks of it. We are looking forward to getting to know them more as we go along.

Come back soon for more updates!
